SPOK and Hantverkarna Stockholm have launched a new collaboration where six prominent designers and six highly skilled craftspeople come together to create new objects. The results will be showcased in a group exhibition during Stockholm Craft Week later this autumn.
The national production platform SPOK and the Stockholm Crafts Association, Hantverkarna Stockholm, have joined forces in a project that highlights the value of handicraft. The aim is to promote collaboration between designers and craftspeople, foster mutual understanding of each other’s expertise, and develop concepts or physical objects that represent both skillsets and expressions.
– By strengthening local production throughout Sweden, SPOK aims to contribute to more locally sourced and sustainable consumption, says Anna Gudmundsdottir, project manager at SPOK, Form/Design Center. SPOK has played a key role in connecting and empowering designers across our regional network. We see this project as a step toward establishing a regional hub for SPOK in Stockholm.
– We are very excited about this collaboration, says Li Pamp, CEO of Hantverkarna Stockholm. In a world where consumers are increasingly disconnected from how things are made, understanding the value of craftsmanship becomes even more important. This project shines a light on craft through new perspectives and to a broader audience.
Through an open call, six designers from the Stockholm region were selected and paired with craftspeople from Hantverkarna Stockholm. Participants include designers, architects, and artists — among them internationally acclaimed names such as Claesson Koivisto Rune, Thomas Sandell, and Matti Klenell. With support from the National Handicraft Council, the collaborative process is now underway, with the participants exploring new perspectives on form, material, and process.
– The response to the open call was overwhelming, with a record number of applications, says Siri Skillgate, project manager for the matchmaking initiative ‘SPOK x Hantverkarna Stockholm’. The quality was exceptionally high, and even though the jury process was tough, we’re thrilled with the six exciting teams we’ve brought together. We can’t wait to see what they create together!
The results of the collaborations will be presented in a group exhibition during Stockholm Craft Week, Sweden’s largest event for contemporary craft. The exhibition takes place October 1–5 at Hantverkarna’s venue on Sibyllegatan 19 in Stockholm.

Bofink Design Studio x Elhadji Ndiaye
Bofink Design Studio, founded in 2004 by interior architect and furniture designer Jenny Askenfors, is a Stockholm-based studio driven by the idea of balancing history, innovation, and craftsmanship.
Elhadji Ndiaye is a furniture upholsterer originally from Senegal who relocated to Sweden. In 2021, he was named Apprentice of the Year for his deep commitment to his craft and efforts to advance sustainable practices within the upholstery trade.

Claesson Koivisto Rune x Studio Blank
Claesson Koivisto Rune is an architecture and design studio founded by Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto, and Ola Rune. Originally starting as an architecture firm, the studio has evolved into an internationally recognized name equally focused on architecture and design.
Studio Blank is a dynamic craft collective led by three passionate artisans: two goldsmiths and one engraver. Their combined expertise reaches deep into traditional craftsmanship.

Matti Klenell x Kaisa Tukonen
Matti Klenell is a renowned designer praised for his innovative approach to Scandinavian design. His creative practice spans across materials and processes.
Kaisa Tukonen has worked as a master glass artist for over 30 years and currently runs her workshop in Bromma. She is one of the few artisans in Sweden who specialize in both creating and restoring leaded stained glass – a highly skilled and precise craft.

Minna Palmqvist x Kinna Olsson
Minna Palmqvist is a Stockholm-based fashion designer and textile artist. Whether working with ready-to-wear collections or art installations, her practice challenges beauty ideals, the objectification of women, and modern-day clothing production and consumption.
Kinna Olsson is a trained feltmaker from the Crafts Academy. Through her craft, she elevates the unique properties of wool – from its durability and natural quality to its potential to replace more environmentally harmful materials. As a feltmaker, she sees great potential in refining Swedish wool and giving it a central role in both traditional and contemporary craft.

Siri Svedborg och Adrian Bursell x Handtryckta Tapeter Långholmen
Siri Svedborg and Adrian Bursell are a Stockholm-based design duo who share a passion for materials, detailing, and playful design expression.
Handtryckta Tapeter Långholmen is a historic wallpaper workshop located on the island of Långholmen in Stockholm. For over 40 years, they’ve specialized in hand-printing wallpapers, borders, roller blinds, and linoleum flooring. Each pattern is printed manually, layer by layer and color by color.

Thomas Sandell x Förgyllare JP Larsson
Thomas Sandell is one of Sweden’s most prominent designers and architects. He works globally in furniture design, interior design, and architecture.
JP Larsson is a Stockholm-based gilding firm founded in 1914. The workshop specializes in the gilding of picture frames, mirrors, and various architectural details.
