Fritz Hansen presents the Series 7 Tailored, a crafted version of the iconic plywood chair, clad in harness leather with precise stitching that highlights its famed silhouette.
Marking the 70th anniversary of the Danish design icon, Series 7 Tailored draws on Italian expertise to show the much-loved chair in another guise: rare and crafted, traversing cultures and expression. The thick harness leather envelops the Series 7’s slender curved shell, its pinched edge and contrasting stitching reminiscent of a luxury handbag or saddle.
A testament to Fritz Hansen’s commitment to quality and legacy, the chair is produced in collaboration with the Italian leather specialist Enrico Pellizoni. The family-owned company combines almost 100 years of experience in producing full grain leather hides with the knowhow of bespoke leather craft.
Their collaboration results in a chair of refinement and materiality, in either embossed or classic leather, that will stand out for its craftsmanship and enduring character.
Series 7 Tailored, marks another chapter in the yearlong celebration of seven decades of Fritz Hansen’s most popular chair, known colloquially as the Sevener chair. Designed in 1955 by Arne Jacobsen, its simple organic form has timeless aesthetic appeal. Its great strength a chameleonlike character that makes it adaptable to diverse environments or materials from the original durable and functional plywood to this more exclusive leather crafted version.
Speaking to the lasting nature of the design, Creative Director Els Van Hoorebeeck says, “Since its release, it has been used in significant interiors as well as in everyday life—at home and in the workplace. You can make it approachable or more exclusive. These two characters—one functional, stackable, practical; the other expressive and iconic—coexist in the same design. It has withstood the test of time, again and again.”
The Series 7 Tailored edition comes in three leather variants, warm ecru and saddle brown with a classic flat surface and slate grey with an embossed pattern. This embossed or pressed form leather represents a first for Fritz Hansen, chosen to mark the 2025 celebrations.
