Fritz Hansen’s Drop™ Chair designed by Arne Jacobsen, is updated in contemporary colours and with matching powder-coated base finishes

Fritz Hansen’s Drop™ Chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen, is updated in contemporary colours and with matching powder-coated base finishes. The new colours perfectly complement Fritz Hansen’s stacking chairs series in colours curated in collaboration with Carla Sozzani.

Modernist architect Arne Jacobsen designed the Drop chair in 1958 for the bar and lobby at the legendary SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Rumoured to be his favourite chair among his many designs, its open, teardrop silhouette – shaped for comfort and freedom of movement – draws inspiration from the contours of the human body and the feeling of an embrace.

Reintroduced by Fritz Hansen in 2014 using modern production methods and techniques, the characteristic chair is now refreshed once more in a palette of sophisticated muted hues and powdercoated base finishes. Reimagining its iconic form, harmonious shades of clay, beige, green and rose honour the original design. Together with new powder-coated base finishes on the chair’s slender metal legs, the expression is one of understated elegance. The Drop is equally at home in a dining room as a home office or hall, grouped together or as a standalone statement.
