Designed for Fredericia in 1958, the iconic Spanish Chair stands out as one of Mogensen’s most celebrated designs. This masterpiece embodies his unique take on modernity, blending original functionalism, skilled craftsmanship, and elegant luxury. Now, The Spanish Chair is introduced in sophisticated dark brown saddle leather, maintaining its status as a global design icon.
Andalucia was the backdrop of inspiration for The Spanish Chair. During a family trip through Spain, Mogensen encountered an ornate chair with wide armrests, a traditional style rooted in Spain’s medieval furniture construction. He modernised this style, using solid oak and sturdy leather for the seat and back, secured by adjustable straps. The result is an original design that continues to captivate with its aesthetic and character. Expertly crafted from solid oak or walnut with geometrical precision featuring the highest quality saddle leather. This rustic combination develops a unique patina that becomes even more stunning over time, enhancing its beauty.
The Spanish Chair is crafted from solid American walnut and European oak, featuring high-premium aniline leather produced by skilled artisans at the esteemed Tärnsjö Tannery in Sweden. For over 60 years, they have tailored pieces for Mogensen’s entire Spanish Collection.
In addition to Black, Cognac, and Natural leather, Fredericia now introduces the new Dark brown variety. This exquisite shade effortlessly combines the warm, earthy tones of oak and emphasises the deep, beautiful hues of walnut wood. These combinations transcend trends and stand the test of time. The Spanish Chair in Dark brown saddle leather celebrates enduring style and unparalleled quality.
