For NYCxDesign 2025, Kvadrat Febrik and Note Design Studio presented an engaging installation, where volume, scale, and contrast merged to celebrate the launch of the two new knitted introductions Myr & Mylla – the first Kvadrat Febrik textiles crafted from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester.
On view at Kvadrat’s New York showroom at 475 Park Avenue, Note Design Studio set out to design an installation featuring the textiles side-by-side and together, highlighting their rich textures and colours. To showcase the intricate mélange surface of both Mylla and its more outspoken, three-dimensional sibling Myr, large pillow-like beanbags were created in each of the colourways for both textiles, featured contrasting details like a black zipper and oversized piping.
Set against the clean lines of Kvadrat’s New York showroom, the installation pieces brings softness and colour into the space, transforming it with oversized, pillow-like forms. The oversized pillows have a familiar shape, but with an unexpected scale, creating a visual contrast to the square shape of the showroom’s gallery space. Laying across the floor or leaning against walls, the installation is an open-ended invitation for visitors to move, rearrange, and lounge on the pieces. As the days unfold, the installation will shift and evolve, reorganised by the people who interact with it.
Note Design Studio’s intention with the installation is to create a tactile experience inspiring creativity:
“The two collections are made to match and enhance each other’s qualities, and in the installation, they’re presented in a way where guests can interact with the textiles hands on – move the pillows to see them side-by-side or in a pile, and explore the full range of structures and colours. We hope for the experience to be a bit odd and outside-the-box as well as colourful and inspiring” explains Susanna Wåhlin, Partner Note Design Studio.
Photographed on the streets of New York, the oversized cushions extend the installation beyond the showroom walls. Set against the city’s architectural landmarks and skyline, their soft, voluminous forms create a striking contrast—offering a fresh perspective on material, scale, and context.
Myr and Mylla are the first Kvadrat Febrik textiles crafted from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester and represent the latest addition to Kvadrat’s commitment to continually pushing the boundaries of textile design. They are constructed with a specially developed recycled polyester yarn made from used plastic bottles and knitted in a double jacquard – a composition that gives the textile its matte appearance and soft touch. The core is created from a high-bulk recycled polyester filling yarn, punctuated with non-directional stitches. While Myr shares the same base layer as Mylla, it features wider spacing between stitches, allowing the filling yarn to bulk up and create a voluminous surface texture.
Note Design Studio took the idea of irregularities, both in manmade and natural surfaces, as their starting point for Myr and Mylla.
Charlotte Ackemar, Senior Designer Note Design Studio: “We were in search of something imperfect, where the textile would seem to be a bit non-structural, in the same way material surfaces have their irregularities. We worked on many physical prototypes in the studio, sewing the filled fabric to test how the placement of stitches affected the ‘random’ surface pattern.”
In Swedish, Mylla means humus (the organic component in soil formed by the decomposition of plant material), referencing one such non-structural surface which has been recreated in the textile’s stippled surface. Myr means wetlands, referring to an irregularity which has been recreated in the textile’s raised surface.
The palette for Mylla offers ten colourways, each integrating two tones of the same colour to build the mélange effect. It includes a series of beige, red, and brown notes as well as more architectural grays and blues. From these ten, Myr is available in five colourways featuring a brick red, industrial gray, and a deep green, alongside a bold yellow and blue for dynamic contrasts.
“With Note Design Studio’s approach to working with textiles as interior architects, Myr and Mylla open new possibilities for creative expression, working together in a room to create a spatial experience.” Renee Merckx, Creative Director Kvadrat Febrik
The multidirectional stretchability inherent in knitted textiles makes them ideal for upholstering organic forms. As mono-material textiles, Myr and Mylla can be continuously recycled with no degradation in quality.
