PP 130 • THE CIRCLE CHAIR – Now in black
HANS J. WEGNER, 1986
In 1986 PP Møbler initiated the production of this remarkable chair, which Wegner designed for the workshop. Like the Flag Halyard Chair, the Circle Chair’s design appears unconnected with both historical predecessors and Wegner’s remaining production.
The Circle Chair shows that Wegner was able to maintain his enthusiasm and innovative spirit despite an already long career. The solid ash and the plaited flag line are elements which are recurrent in Wegner’s extensive production.
It was necessary for master of crafts Søren Holst Pedersen and master journeyman Henry Fisker to develop a special machine for manufacturing it in wood – which Wegner himself actually did not think was even possible.

I 1986 begyndte PP Møbler produktionen af denne bemærkelsesværdige stol, som Wegner tegnede til værkstedet. Cirkelstolen viser, at Wegner formår at bevare evnen til stadig at innovere trods en allerede lang karriere.
Ligesom Flaglinestolen har Cirkelstolen ikke et egentligt forbillede af historisk karakter eller inden for Wegners egen produktion. Men på trods af stolens særlige karakter i forhold til Wegners formgivning er den massive ask og den flettede flagline elementer, der løber igennem Wegners omfattende produktion.
Til fremstillingen af cirkelstolen udviklede snedkermester, Søren Holst Petersen, sammen med PP Møblers mestersvend, Henry Fisker, en særlig maskine til at fremstille cirklen, som Wegner ellers ikke troede kunne lade sig gøre at fremstille i træ.
