Galleri Glas presents summer exhibition Glass Stockholm – a dynamic and groundbreaking exhibition that introduces a powerful voice within contemporary glass art. This exhibition brings together five of Stockholm’s most prominent glass artists from the influential studio STHLM Glas: Carina Seth Andersson, Ulrika Barr, Liu Chien-Kuang, Simon Klenell, Rasmus Nossbring.
Through a diversity of techniques and artistic expressions, these artists create a cohesive yet distinct formal language – bold, visionary and deeply expressive. Their artistic practice touches on themes such as cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship, surrealism and alchemy, which are reinterpreted through advanced and innovative techniques. For example, Ulrika Barr combines sand casting and glass blowing in a groundbreaking interplay, while Liu Chien-Kuang has refined the exquisite Italian Reticello technique, a rarity in Sweden. Simon Klenell pushes the aesthetic boundaries of glass through his refined silvering technique, Carina Seth Andersson playfully experiments with materials such as black lava sand and metal oxides, and Rasmus Nossbring challenges conventions by reshaping industrial objects with his unique hot-sculpting methods. Together they embody an artistic energy that reflects Stockholm’s cultural vitality and creativity.
Galleri Glas wants to highlight that contemporary art glass is very much alive and that there is a study movement and a glassworks in Stockholm.
The glassworks STHLM Glas was founded in 2017 by Simon Klenell and Rasmus Nossbring and has its operations in the historic Gustavsberg porcelain factory. As a contemporary artistic movement within glass, the studio has vitalized a tradition that has long been associated with the Glass Kingdom. By bringing glass art into Stockholm’s urban context, STHLM Glas fills a central function in the city’s artistic landscape and offers a dynamic and experimental platform for artists to explore new artistic expressions.
The studio has established itself as a living meeting place for artists, designers and architects, including Ann Wåhlström, Jonas Bohlin, among others, who have all been inspired by the open and innovative environment. This interdisciplinary and inclusive culture promotes a unique cross-fertilization of ideas and techniques, similar to internationally recognized urban glass centers such as Urban Glass in Brooklyn and Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle.
“This exhibition is more than a presentation of works – it is a manifesto for where contemporary Swedish glass art is heading: bold, collaborative and deeply rooted in both tradition and innovation,” says Anna Bromberg Sehlberg, gallerist at Galleri Glas.
The purpose of the exhibition is to deepen visitors’ experience of Stockholm’s contemporary glass movement through an immersive exhibition that unites mastery, artistic vision and creative energy. Galleri Glas wants to highlight Swedish glass art’s capacity for renewal and resilience, as well as make visible its potential in a contemporary urban context.
Galleri Glas is located at Nybrogatan 34 in central Stockholm. We continuously show solo and group exhibitions with Swedish and international artists. For our exhibitions we collaborate closely with artists and glassworks in the production of unique objects, spatial designs and total experiences, uniquely designed for each respective exhibition.
