Martela introduces Menu, a versatile chair designed by Stefan Lindfors that combines Nordic functionality with thoughtful elegance
Originally sketched in pastels during the designer’s working retreat in Tenerife, Menu represents a distillation of form and function into essential simplicity.
Intelligent Design
The chair’s defining feature is its carefully proportioned armrests – reduced in depth to allow the chair to hang from table edges, facilitating easy floor cleaning in cafés, conference rooms, and public spaces. This practical detail exemplifies Lindfors’ approach: solving real-world challenges through refined design.
Menu’s stackable construction ensures efficient storage without compromising individual comfort or visual presence. The gentle curve of the backrest provides ergonomic support while maintaining a light, unobtrusive profile.
Design Philosophy
“Great design should feel inevitable,” notes Lindfors. “With Menu, we’ve created a chair that works hard while appearing effortless – perhaps the most Scandinavian quality of all.”
The collaboration between Stefan Lindfors and Martela brings together the designer’s international vision with Martela’s seven decades of furniture manufacturing expertise, advancing Nordic design tradition while addressing contemporary workplace needs.

The Menu chair design has evolved into the AX Collection, now manufactured by Piiroinen Oy, the Finnish family-owned furniture company established in 1949. Under this new partnership, Stefan Lindfors’ original vision continues to serve contemporary spaces with the same commitment to functional elegance and sustainable Nordic craftsmanship.
