Thriving Materia gives new designers wind behind their sails
Materia is swimming against the current in terms of growth, and has increased its market share despite the recession. For 2009 we are expanding our design ensemble with two Norwegian teams - Norway Says; Andreas Engesvik, Espen Voll and Torbjørn Anderssen, as well as; Atle Tveit, Lars Tornøe and Steinar Hindenes, and are giving newcomer Fredrik Färg from HDK wind behind his sails.

Visit our stand at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, see and experience our new products from the following concept groups: materia.executive - materia.meetings - materia.accessories and materia.training

COAT
Design FREDRIK FÄRG

”I am inspired by the enduring nature of classic menswear, applying tailoring principles, proportions and forms to what I refer to as ”slow fashion furniture.” The idea is to create evolution rather than revolution, to convey a story that is not driven by today´s market trends and consumer stress.”

FRANK
Design NORWAY SAYS

”We went back to point zero, aiming for an archetypal stand, with architectural, almost sculptural qualities. Transparent and light in character, it is distinct in function and almost bodylike in size and dimension.”

FAT
Design THOMAS BERNSTRAND, LARS PETTERSSON

”Heavyset in character yet neat in volume, Fat is an archetypal chair, which we broadened, pulled out and fattened a bit - hence the name. It is intended for occasional sitting in all kinds of public indoor spaces, including shopping malls, care facilities and offices.”

SUBWAY
Design THOMAS BERNSTRAND

”An exclamation mark, which can either stand by itself or, if repeated, form beautiful landscapes. Inspired by the pillars of the subway system, which expose layers of posters, it swallows periodicals like no other magazine holder.”

FOLDER
Design FREDRIK FÄRG

”It struck me that the characteristics of felt gave it incredible potential. I started out with a plane surface and folded it, almost like origami. This time it turned out to be a magazine holder, which leads its own life depending on how you place the periodicals. It´s all about the experience of things not always being what you expect them to be.”

MAYFLOWER
Design THOMAS BERNSTRAND, LARS PETTERSSON

”Expressing lightness and elegance, the table echoes the character and form language of the Mayflower chair series. The upward striving design of the pedestal, paired with soft, sound absorbent feet, accentuates the floating character of the tabletop. Elegant, accessible and affordable.”

BONE
Design STEINAR HINDENES, ATLE TVEIT, LARS TORNØE

”We set out to make a resting chair that embraces the user, all in one piece, based on a three-dimensional, upholstered shell. The flexibility of the wooden shell, in combination with the polyurethane, foam in the seating, provides an exceptional sitting comfort.”
