FIVE NEW PRODUCTS FROM KARL ANDERSSON & SÖNER

1. MRS BILL – The cabinets with the "bent" corners
Designed by Mick Born.

Mrs Bill is a storage series that was created when Mick wanted to make a sideboard for his friend, Mrs Bill. He was doodling on his sketchpad when he suddenly came up with the solution – a "bent" corner on the doors. It's designed to make the cabinet as visually and functionally simple as possible – and add a light-hearted touch as well. Mick Born (born in 1972) lives in Bromma, Stockholm, and trained as an art director at Berghs School of Communication. He also attended the Carl Malmsten School of Design (now the Carl Malmsten Centre for Wood Technology & Design at Linköping University). Today he runs his own company, Born Studios. 2. NEWTON – The coffee table that defies the laws of gravity
Designed by Dan Sunaga and Staffan Holm.

Newton is a series of tables that plays on how designs can be created by outside influences. The underframe consists of two circles that have been pulled together at the edges so that they arch down towards the floor and up to the glass top. Thanks to an ingenious production technique, the table can be made with the minimum of waste.

Dan Sunaga (born in Stockholm 1975) grew up in Japan. He trained at Hokkaido Tokai University, HDK School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg and at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Dan also designed our Itomaki table in 2007.

Staffan Holm (born in 1977) has recently graduated from the HDK School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg. He endeavours to imbue the functional aspects of his designs with greater emotional appeal so that we become more closely attached to our possessions and keep them longer. 3. YPSILON – The stable Y-table
Designed by Love Neuschütz.

Ypsilon is a table that is at home in all sorts of settings. The Y-shaped structure is almost architectural in its conception and gives the construction maximum stability. This is typical of Love's designs, which have a pragmatic quality where every situation creates its own forms and solutions.

Love Neuschütz (born in 1978) lives in Stockholm. He trained at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm and today works as an interior architect at sandellsandberg. Read more about Love on www.neuschutz.com

4. SIGN – Stackable bench, shelving and room divider
Designed by Sanna Lindström.

Sign is a storage series that can be used as shelving, a room divider, bench, etc. Different combinations can be created and different functions fulfilled simply by stacking and positioning the units in different ways. Sign looks just as good in individual homes as it does in offices and other public environments. It adapts easily to meet different needs thanks to its flexibility in terms of form, size and function.

Sanna Lindström (born in 1981) lives and works in Stockholm. She studied furniture design at the Carl Malmsten School of Design (now the Carl Malmsten Centre for Wood Technology & Design at Linköping University). Sanna's designs are characterised by their complex simplicity, a timeless yet contemporary feel, and a clear focus on the user.

5. ponoq – Hidden hooks in the wall
Designed by Nils Gulin.

ponoq is an ingenious little construction that is secured to the wall to provide hooks for the hall, kitchen, bedroom, office, hotel room, auditorium, or wherever there's a need to hang clothes, bags, towels, etc. The wave-shaped hooks remain concealed until they are needed. Nils loves to design products with an element of surprise.

Nils (born in 1965) trained as an SIR interior architect at the HDK School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg. For the past 14 years he has been running his own company, Gulin Interiör, in Gothenburg. Read more about Nils on www.gulinint.com
