Traver Gallery is pleased to welcome Ann Wåhlström to Traver Gallery for her first solo exhibition with us titled Currents.
Ann Wåhlström is a Swedish artist with a rich background in both glassblowing and design. She studied at the Glass School in Orrefors before coming to the United States where she was introduced to studio glass at the Pilchuck Glass School. Later she attended the Konstfafk School of Art and Design in Stockholm and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. Wåhlström has been a designer for Kosta Boda and is represented in several museum collections internationally. She is currently based in Stockholm where she combines her creative glasswork with freelance design.
Ann says, “My work is organic and fluid. I play and experiment with various patterns and incorporate them into blown glass. Following the shapes of the objects, I try to interpret the movement of water around stones and plants. Using a mix of classic coloring techniques including murrine, cane, and bit work, my drawings are transformed into familiar vessels and stone-like pieces.”
All objects in this exhibition were made in collaboration with the team at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma in the Spring of 2022.
