Autumn at Orrefors is distinguished by handsome pieces in black

Ingegerd Råman, Orrefors

NEW PRODUCTS, AUTUMN 2006

Autumn at Orrefors is distinguished by handsome pieces in black combining elegance of design with stylish, hand-cut décor. The bowls and dishes of Ingegerd Råman’s ever popular Pond series are now also available in a striking black version, while Jan Johansson’s new Street collection shows that discreet accents of black make the perfect foil to Orrefors’ classic cutting skills.
The design team has sought inspiration both in the natural world and in urban architecture and the hectic pace of life in the city.

Efva Attling’s first glass for Orrefors, Amor Vincit Omnia, is set to become a firm favourite. Meanwhile, Delight, Lena Bergström’s new votive, is a real eye-catcher – put lots of Delights on the dinner table!

Orrefors has always been noted for its ability to combine technical perfection with beautiful, innovative design. For confirmation, look no further than the 2006 autumn collection!

Pond Black – bowls and dishes
Design: Ingegerd Råman
Ingegerd Råman’s highly successful Pond collection is now also available in black. The design was inspired by the little pond in Orrefors. Toss a pebble into the water and you’ll see the shape of the dishes reflected in the rings that spread across the surface. Unlike the previous, clear-glass varieties, this year’s new dishes are entirely without décor. The bowls are decorated with the now traditional sand-blasted tangle pattern. The new bowls and dishes come in three practical sizes. For a functional yet highly attractive dining table, try a mix of clear glass and black.

Slowfox Black – votives
Design: Ingegerd Råman
When Ingegerd Råman began creating black glass back in 2005, success was immediate; her stunning designs were shown at exhibitions all over the world. Autumn 2006 sees the arrival of three new votives, all decorated with the characteristic Slowfox grass, tangle and rings patterns.
The décor is skilfully sand-blasted onto each piece by Orrefors’ own team of craftsmen. Like jewels of jet-black onyx, these votives make spectacular ornaments for the classic modern home.

Squeeze – vases
Design: Lena Bergström
Lena Bergström’s Squeeze was created some years ago during an inspired moment of experimentation by Lena and the glassblowers in the Orrefors hot shop. The result was a collection of imposing vases that have picked up a number of distinctions, among them the prestigious Excellent Swedish Design award.
New colours are natural coniferous green and classic white, while the hugely popular black vase now also comes in the largest size available.
The squeezed shape of the vase shows off the bouquet to its best advantage and brings vase and flowers together in an attractive natural symbiosis. The clear, white, black and coniferous green versions are available in four different sizes, the red in two.

Street – glass, ice bucket, decanter and coasters
Design: Jan Johansson
Jan Johansson, the undisputed master of Orrefors crystal, makes his latest contribution to the Orrefors collection with Street, a series of bar items. The hand-cut grid pattern suggests Manhattan’s famous street network, while the symmetrical décor lends an outspokenly masculine air to the series as a whole. The ice bucket, besides the decorative cutting, features two square, black handles, while the stylish decanter has a square, black stopper. The series is completed by a martini glass and a set of sober black coasters.

Amor Vincit Omnia
– champagne coupe/bowl, champagne flute/tall, martini

Design: Efva Attling
Efva Attling’s first collection of glasses for Orrefors is romantically named Amor Vincit Omnia – Love Conquers All.
Efva Attling is a designer of jewellery who has now brought her considerable experience and skills to the creation of glass. The result is three glasses of classic, stylish design, each with a silver ring encircling the gracile stem. The glasses making up this luxury collection are evocative of the art déco of the nineteen-thirties. The ring is inscribed with the words “Amor Vincit Omnia”.
The champagne glasses are available in two versions: a tall, handsome flute and a low, round coupe. They come in an exclusive twin-pack and make the perfect wedding present. The third glass of the collection is a more masculine martini glass whose silver ring, though slightly sterner than its cousins, expresses the same warm sentiments. A special gift for a very special friend!
