Wästberg presents Raw collection

Since 2008, in collaboration with some of the world’s leading architects and designers, Wästberg has created critically acclaimed lighting solutions that balance aesthetics with the finest technical properties. Now they are introducing a collection that is very much of our time in several respects. Its common denominator is raw aluminium.

The ten lamps in the collection, all variants of new or existing lamps in the Wästberg range, are made of either brushed, tumbled or polished raw aluminium, with no extra finish or coating, either for protective or aesthetic purposes. The natural structure of the surface has a tactile depth, and over time the lamp gains a beautiful, distinctive patina through handling and oxidation.

“The Raw collection doesn’t necessarily come out of current aesthetical tendencies,” says Magnus Wästberg. “Rather, it expresses a desire for more efficient use of energy and materials in manufacturing and recycling.”

The products included in the Raw collection are variants of w227 Winkel, w225 Ion and w224 Alto developed with Dirk Winkel; w151 Extra large pendant, w201 Extra small pendant and w221 Medium pendant, designed with Claesson Koivisto Rune; w171 Alma with Tham & Videgård and w222 Focal, designed with David Chipperfield. There is also a Raw variant of Chipperfield’s new portable hybrid w241 Faro lamp, and Sam Hecht’s & Kim Colin’s recent update of classic w162 Dalston.
