The Flindt Wall – Louis Poulsen

The Flindt Wall – Louis Poulsen

The Flindt Wall brings soft, sculptural illumination indoors and out

With the popular cylindrical Flindt Bollard as his starting point, Danish designer Christian Flindt has created the stunning new Flindt Wall: a circular, wall-mounted fixture that brings bold, sculptural illumination to both indoor and outdoor spaces. Based on the same carved-out design as the Flindt Bollard, the Flindt Wall continues the elegant design language, sending a gentle glow in multiple directions.

Like the Flindt Bollard, the Flindt Wall is distinguished by a light egress from an opening in the top that sends light from two LED bulbs down the front of the fixture, illuminating the surrounding space and creating a subtle, glowing ring of reflected light along the fixture’s rim. A portion of the light is also distributed up and back, creating an indirect light component in the shape of a half-moon.

The multiple effects create attractive and, subtle yet strong luminance as well as a warm, inviting ambience. The Flindt Wall can be placed at any level depending on the desired effect and location. Indoors, it’s ideal for entryways, hallways, stairwells, and other spaces that call for gentle illumination. Outdoors, it mounts beautifully on any walls to light up terraces, yards, driveways – and of course walls and buildings themselves. Combining the Flindt Wall and Flindt Bollard to illuminate paths and buildings creates a modern, unified aesthetic.

“Light means so much to people and so profoundly influences our experiences that it’s essential to get it right, and to design with the specific setting and desired effect in mind,” says Christian Flindt. “We all have different light preferences – but when the sun goes down, I think we all enjoy having a certain warmth and ambience around us. And that was our ultimate goal here, first with the cylindrical Flindt Bollard, and now with the orbital Flindt Wall. We wanted to create comfort and avoid glare, using multi-directional light that guides and illuminates, while being pleasing on the eye.Like a solar eclipse, it’s remarkable yet perfectly natural in its environment – an important balance in lighting design.”

We wanted to create comfort and avoid glare, using multi-directional light that guides and illuminates, while being pleasing on the eye.

Christian Flindt worked with a combination of software, 3D printing, and metal casting to ensure the ideal balance between proportions, curves and light in the three Flindt Wall sizes. From the side, the Flindt Wall resembles a slim ellipse consisting of two overlapping ovals. The oval shape is lifted off the mounting surface, giving the fixture a light, floating appearance. The Flindt Wall is available in Alu Grey, White, and Corten.
