Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair pulling out all the stops for 2022, with a greater focus on Scandinavian design than ever before

After an absence of almost two years, Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is once again opening its doors at Stockholmsmässan in February 2022, ready to welcome visitors from all over the world. They are invited to an updated, optimized and experience-driven fair where Scandinavian design and the latest developments in sustainability take center stage like never before.

“The Furniture & Light Fair is an engine for Scandinavian design and, along with our neighboring countries, we are also industry leaders in the field of sustainable development, which is why people from all around the globe will be making the pilgrimage to Stockholm in February to admire what we do here. The future for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is about all this and more, including our innovativeness and lifestyle,” says Sanna Gebeyehu, Concept & Product Owner.

Changes at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2022
A new feature this year is an experience-based exhibition about the Scandinavian lifestyle, which will cover so much more than the stereotypical elements and will be located in the middle of the entrance hall. Visitors will thus be introduced to us Scandinavians as soon as they enter the fair, not least through design, food, language and fashion. In addition to this, there will also be an exhibition offering knowledge and inspiration, with a focus on Scandinavian design, architecture, innovation and sustainability. Both these exhibitions will be conceptualized and curated in partnership with a number of external contributors.

“Listening to what our exhibitors and visitors want, it has become apparent that we need to create a more dynamic meeting place that is refreshed from year to year. I have no doubt that visitors and exhibitors alike are going to be more inspired than ever, after attending Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair in February 2022,” says Sanna Gebeyehu.

Stockholm Design Week
In another new development, from 2022 Stockholm Design Week will be held twice a year, in conjunction with Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair in February and then also in August, replacing Summer Design Week with an international design week focused on interiors, architecture and retail.

“Founded in 2002, Stockholm Design Week combines with Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair to create the world’s most influential meeting place for Scandinavian design. Stockholm Design Week is a powerful marketing tool for getting Scandinavian design out into the world, but its impact goes beyond that. It is also about energizing the city and driving traffic to Stockholm and Sweden more generally, as well as securing Sweden’s place on the design map globally,” explains Chicie Lindgren, Business Area Manager Stockholm Design Events.

“I believe that the future of design fairs is glocal in terms of celebrating local designers and artisans while engaging with global themes such as sustainability and social equity, so I’m looking forward to Stockholm’s upcoming Design Week as it encapsulates exactly this approach,” says Costas Voyatzis, Creative Director / Founder of Yatzer.com and jury member, Editors Choice.

70,000 sqm will be packed out in February
Stockholmsmässan expects to be fully operational once again by late October/early November, based on the ongoing dialogue with the relevant authorities and ministries.

“We’re confident that Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2022 is going to fill our 70,000 sqm, based on the demand we’re seeing from exhibitors and visitors,” states Christian Clemens, CEO of Stockholmsmässan.

Exhibitors who have already registered their interest include the design furniture producer Lammhults and Zero Lightning.

”As a Swedish producer of design furniture, it´s crucial that we have an attractive arena such as Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair in Sweden where we can meet the design-interested audience. That there is a design fair in Stockholm where we, together with other companies in the industry, can show ourselves and attract international visitors is good for both Sweden and the industry and it´s something to be proud of! After the challenges of recent years with the pandemic, we hope and believe that the fair 2022 will breathe optimism and faith in the future. In addition, we, and certainly many with us, feel a pent up need to be able to see each other live again instead of on a screen, which of course benefits this type of activity, says Peter Jiseborn, CEO of Lammhults.

“We can’t wait to exhibit at the fair again. We’ve missed it. We’ve got a new location, a new stand design and we’re also investing heavily in a number of new products. We hope the fair is going to attract many quality visitors, from Scandinavia and further afield. We know that lots of people are looking forward to visiting Stockholm and meeting face to face again,” says Per Gill, CEO of Zero.

Formex
Fans of interior design can get their inspiration injection as early as this August with the Formex Talks, which will be released on the 24th, 25th and 26th of the month, offering a range of exciting themes and guests. That same week will see the announcement of the Design Talents winner, and a press conference will be held to present the extensive work on the vision for the future of Formex. Then on January 18-24, 2022 it will finally be time for Formex again.
