Sorpresa is lightweight volume lamp with a surprise, hence the name.
A key challenge of large volume lamps is their packaging size contributing to an increased carbon footprint due to inefficiency in transport space and excess materials. With Sorpresa, rather than opting for a disassembled flat-pack lamp, we’ve developed a pre-assembled lamp with an innovative timber mechanism that enables it to expand automatically upon release from its packaging.
The design incorporates recycled and recyclable materials, features a removable cover, and allows for all parts to be easily separated at the end of its life cycle.
Taking a traditional wool winder as inspiration, designer Samuel Wilkinson has created a new iconic chandelier, Sorpresa, that automatically opens out and expands in a single effortless gesture. The warm tone of the sanded oak structure elegantly complements the off-white transparent mesh of subtle horizontal patterns, defining the distinctive airiness of the lamp, soft and approachable. Sorpresa is made of recyclable or natural materials. Instead of an embedded LED solution Sorpresa uses a bulb as light source to support environmental responsibility at all levels of the design.
