PK80™ Daybed celebrates its 60th anniversary

Poul Kjærholm’s sculptural PK80™ Daybed celebrates its 60th anniversary

One of the most iconic furniture designs from the mid-century Danish Modern furniture design period, the PK80 Daybed, designed by Poul Kjærholm, celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2017. Featured in places like the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the strikingly beautiful PK80 is one of Kjærholm’s most sophisticated designs. A signature example of Kjærholm’s way of working, the daybed clearly illustrates his ability to balance construction and choice of materials to refine and simplify the design and achieve a sublime, timeless expression. The daybed design was inspired by ancient Roman couches, which Kjærholm reimagined with a Bauhaus sensibility.

The special-edition anniversary model

True to Poul Kjærholm’s impeccable interpretation of natural materials, the PK80 anniversary model is upholstered in Royal Nubuck in a rich, brown earth colour. The leather comes from the finest European hides, each unique and bearing the characteristics and marks of a natural product. The Royal Nubuck is buffed on the
surface to achieve the much-desired velvet look, and will, over time, gain a shinier patina, just as the colour will soften. The PK80 frame is crafted from satin-brushed stainless steel.
