Explore Past, Present and Future Norwegian Design

Explore the hidden gems of Norwegian Design’s past, present and future when the InsideNorway stand arrives at the International Contemporary Furniture fair at The Javits Center in New York City.

From mid-century modernism to cutting-edge new concepts, Norway has a rich design tradition. Historically, though, it has been somewhat overshadowed by our Nordic neighbors. Heaps of hidden gems are now waiting to be discovered, alongside never-before-seen contributions from a new generation of designers.

From 17 – 20 May, the InsideNorway stand will be at this year’s
International Contemporary Furniture Fair

Norwegian by Nature

Representing the future of Norwegian design is the exhibition “Norwegian by Nature: New Designs from Norway,” curated by Paul Makovsky, the Editorial Director of Metropolis Magazine.

“Norwegian by Nature” will display prototypes from 20 Norwegian designers, many of whom are already working all over the world and getting international attention.

Sales exhibition & Norwegian Icons

In addition to the prototypes, InsideNorway highlights the work of seven Norwegian design & furniture companies. Two of these are, together, producing some of the finest textiles that Norway has to offer. Røros Tweed and Mandal Veveri have both garnered international reputations for their high quality, aesthetically appealing designs.

The remaining five companies bring objects that continue in production, but were designed between 1940 and 1975. These are all part of the Norwegian Icons exhibition, curated by the world-renowned coffee bar and vintage design showroom Fuglen.

Drawing attention to Norway’s contribution to mid-century Scandinavian design, the Norwegian Icons exhibit brings together hundreds of works of high-end decorative arts and furniture from this era.

Included at ICFF are a selection of works that are still in production, while the full exhibition arrives in New York right after the fair. It opens at Open House on Friday, May 23.

InsideNorway will be at booth 922 at ICFF, May 17–20, 2014.
