NEW ICONIC ROCKY BAROQUE VASE BY
HANNA HANSDOTTER FOR KOSTA BODA

In spring 2024, Kosta Boda and Hanna Hansdotter follow up on the successful launch of the Rocky Baroque candlestick with the introduction of a new exceptional vase. The vase will be introduced in three colorways, in a limited edition. A rebellious take with ancient roots, the Rocky Baroque series is a playful remix of the classical column. Rocky Baroque candlestick was recently awarded ‘Interior Accessory of the Year’ at the 2024 Elle Deco Design Awards in Sweden.

Rocky Baroque resides in the borderlands between sculpture and utility object, a recurring theme in Hanna Hansdotter’s design. Monumental contours meet raw, jagged surfaces delivering a design that is as distinctive as it is decorative. Humor and irony are other tools used to interpret and challenge authoritarian principles. The result is its own genre – Rocky Baroque

The exclusive vase is a successor to the iconic candlestick series introduced in 2023 in three sizes and seven colorways. Rocky Baroque candlestick has amassed international praise and attention at multiple exhibitions since its launch including 3 days of design in Copenhagen, Paris Fashion Summit, Copenhagen Fashion Week and A Day’s March in London. The Rocky Baroque series’ characteristic sculptural and bold expression is, if anything, even more articulated in the new vase.

The vase, like the candlestick, is produced by Kosta Boda’s skilled craftsmen at the Kosta glassworks in Sweden. An old cutter from the 1940s, used to complete the graphic molds, was included in the complex production process. Once the profile and contours of the form were set, Hansdotter started chipping away pieces from the graphite to bring out the iconic rock-like look and feel of Rocky Baroque.

”The Rocky Baroque vase is very representative of my design process that tends to kick off with a conceptual idea as opposed to a defined vision of the end result,” says Hanna Hansdotter. “This triggers interesting new opportunities for the creative development and final design of the product where I am open to new expressions and possibilities more than often guided by unforeseen events and influences.”

”2023 has been a very important and exciting year of the re-launch of Kosta Boda,” says David Carlson, Creative Director at Kosta Boda. “Rocky Baroque is not only an iconic design but has been instrumental in the initial transformation of Kosta Boda to a contemporary, creative and progressive brand and the new vase definitely sets the right tone for 2024.”
