In an industry constantly chasing the next new thing, House of Finn Juhl takes a different approach. For this year’s 3daysofdesign, the brand presents The Quiet Power of Patina – an exhibition dedicated to the durability, character, and beauty found in well-crafted, aged furniture.
Instead of introducing a new piece, House of Finn Juhl turns its focus to what already exists – showcasing a selection of iconic Finn Juhl designs, all produced in-house over the past 25 years. The furniture has been kindly lent by private owners as well as selected restaurants and hotels, where signs of wear bear witness to its ability to withstand heavy use.
The aim is to show that furniture can last when it’s made with intention, care, and quality materials. With skilled craftsmanship, it is possible to create pieces that age gracefully, retain their value across generations, and become more beautiful and personal over time.
At the heart of the exhibition, an organically shaped podium offers an open, 360-degree view of the pieces. Among the highlights are icons such as the Chieftain Chair, the 45 Chair, the Pelican Chair, and the Poet Sofa – all shown in patinated leather, textiles, and sheepskin, each one a testament to longevity and cherished use.
The exhibition is accompanied by a talk on responsible design with Flemming Møldrup and Steffen Kallehauge from the transformation agency Märk. The conversation explores how design brands can – and must – take long-term responsibility by producing less but better furniture that simply needs to be cared for and maintained.
House of Finn Juhl has made significant investments in Danish production, and throughout all three days of the festival, visitors can experience live upholstery work in the showroom.
As a certified B Corp, House of Finn Juhl is committed to a long-term perspective on furniture production. This means that once a Finn Juhl model is relaunched, it remains in the collection indefinitely. Each piece is made to order, avoiding overproduction and fleeting, seasonal collections. This way, the House of Finn Juhl collection grows slowly – and only when it makes sense.
The Quiet Power of Patina is a tribute to what matters and what lasts – and a gentle reminder that new isn’t always the best.
Location: House of Finn Juhl, Gothersgade 9, 1123 Copenhagen K
3daysofdesign: June 18-20, 2025. Preview June 17
The exhibition will remain open until autumn 2025.

About Finn Juhl
Finn Juhl (1912-1989) originally wanted to become an art historian, but his father would not allow it. Instead, Finn Juhl studied to become an architect at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Before completing his studies, he was employed at the architect Vilhelm Lauritzen’s studio, where he spearheaded with projects such as the Radio House and Copenhagen Airport. From 1937, Finn Juhl began exhibiting his furniture designs at the annual Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen. Here, he broke with the strict functionalism of the time and challenged the Danish furniture tradition. With organic forms, exclusive materials, inspiration from foreign cultures, and groundbreaking design ideas, he was met with both criticism and admiration.
Despite never finishing his architecture degree, Finn Juhl gained great recognition for his work and always referred to himself as a self-taught furniture designer. Finn Juhl made a name for himself beyond Denmark’s borders, especially in the USA. Among the international highlights of his career, one of the most significant was the interior of the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the UN Headquarters in New York between 1951 and 1952.
