A broad showing of Swedish design and fashion in London 2013

Swedish Design shines brightly during London Design Festival in 2013. Two exhibitions featuring young designers both showing high quality craftsmanship and innovation in design. Svensk Form is behind the annual initiative in collaboration with the Swedish Institute and the Swedish Embassy in London.

On the 18th of September Ung Svensk Form opens as part of Designersblock at the Southbank Centre in London. Ung Svensk Form is a recurring juried award for young Swedish designers and driven by Svensk Form. The nominees have been touring Europe since the award took place and now all 27 participants arrive in London for Designersblock. The exhibition itself will be inaugurated by the Swedish Ambassador HE Ms Nicola Clase and run until 22nd of September.

At the same time Mint Shop presents nine Swedish designers’ work at Cabinets of Curiosity with the support of Svensk Form. Some of the designers have themselves shown as part of Svensk Form’s New Makers and Doers in Milan this year and represent the finest young design pioneers Sweden has to offer today. The exhibition, focusing on wood furniture, opens on the 19th of September and includes work from Snickeriet, Färg&Blanche, Sami Kallio, Folkform, Jenny Ekdahl, Lukas Dahlén, Per Söderberg, Matilda Dahlquist and AEO.

“We’re always pleased to be able to present innovative Swedish design abroad, with this the fourth year running we’ve done so in London. Our recurring cooperation with the various Swedish organisations enables us to actively strengthen the already positive image of Swedish design,” says Ewa Kumlin, CEO Svensk Form.

Fashion also has a place on the agenda for September’s Swedish activities in London. Svensk Form supports a number of the most prominent names in Swedish fashion during the year, including Ann-Sofie Back, Rodebjer and AlteweiSoame, showing as part of the Re Present Swedish Fashion Showroom initiative by Business Sweden, along with a number of other Swedish fashion and lifestyle brands.

Form magazine is of course well represented during the design festival, as media partner to the design event 100% Design. The latest issue, which includes and interview with Ann-Sofie Back can also be found at Mint Shop and Designersblock and around the Design Festival venues.
