World Interiors Day 2013

“Celebrating 50 Years of Design Around The Globe”

January 26, 2013, New York City ‒ The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) and our global community commemorates Saturday, May 25, 2013, as World interiors day in this 50th anniversary year for the interiors community across the world.

World Interiors Day is an annual event spearheaded by IFI and designed to spotlight Interior Architecture/Design. The event actively engages professionals, national organizations, design enthusiasts and the general public to explore creativity, imagination, vision and passion in relation to the role of Interior Architecture/Design in society, culture and our future environments.

The month of May plays host to events highlighting the merits of the Interiors profession and the impact on the quality of life and the built environment. Events are planned by individuals and hosted all over the world, linked by a common theme chosen each year to reflect the values of not only IFI but the industry as a whole.

This year’s theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Design Around the Globe” recognizes the rich history of global communication and consensus within the Interiors profession over the past 50 years.

As IFI continues to raise awareness, heighten excellence, and expand the contribution of the Interior Architecture/Design profession throughout this 50th anniversary year, we aspire to have 50 cities adopt and proclaim both the World Interiors Day and the historic Interiors Declaration. We look forward to including your city and the results of your effort in this 50th year celebration for Interiors worldwide.

Past events range from smaller round table discussions to larger city wide events varying in type, size, and location. Individuals may work together with local and/or national organizations to link small scale activities together to form a city-wide, province-wide, state-wide or country-wide event.

Types of activities can include:

Work with your Local Government to proclaim, May 25th 2013, World Interiors Day. At the same time have your city adopt the Inteiors Declaration to honor this important day. With the issuance of these proclamations, it is also an opportunity to showcase the progressive approach to design and economic development that your city government takes through the concurrent adoption/proclamation of the IFI Interiors Declaration.

Open door programs allow Interior Architects/Designers to showcase interiors usually not open to the public. Walking tours can be created by combining several of these open door programs.

Open your practice and invite the public into a professional space to see how Interior Architects/Designers work and the environments in which they design.

Free student practice day provides students the opportunity to work in design studios for a day and learn the practice of interior design.

Exhibitions and art events in cooperation with local museums and institutions to curate relate to this year’s theme or interior design in general.

Lectures, talks, discussions by interior architects/designers at schools, public libraries or other institutions will focus on the importance of our living environment.

Kid’s activities for the next generation! Work with educators to engage children in a range of creative, practical or fun experiences that raise their awareness of people and the spaces that surround them.
