GUBI chair family
The GUBI Lounge chair is the new member of the GUBI chair family.
The GUBI chair is the very first industrial product based on an innovative technique of moulding 3-D veneer — a process invented in Germany by Dr. Achim Möller and developed by the Reholz GmbH.
With all edges turned away from the human body, a soft, organically shaped shell is formed, creating the characteristic "body" of the chair that in its friendliness comforts you and invites you to touch it. When sitting on the chair you are not able to feel any sharp edges. The shell feels soft and comfortable. With the new moulding technique you are able to get a completely new expression of a plywood chair — a form that previously only was possible to make in plastic. Following the development of the 3-D veneer closely and after several experiments KOMPLOT Design were able to realize the GUBI chair together with GUBI. The GUBI chair family is designed to be used in a variety of situations — from meeting rooms, conference rooms and canteens to cafés and restaurants. The chairs are available in beech, maple, oak and walnut veneer as well as in black and white soft coating. The chairs are also available with front padding or fully upholstered in fabric or leather. The base comes in chrome or satin chrome in a stackable and non-stackable version. The GUBI chair family will grow constantly in the future.

The base comes in chrome or satin.

The GUBI chair has received the following awards: The BLUEPRINT Best Product Award at the 100% design exhibition September 2003. 1st prize Best Product overall (Bo Bedre) at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair May 2003. 1st prize Most Innovative Design at Chicago Neocon Fair June 2003. The Forsnäs Prize at the Stockholm Furniture Fair February 2004. Red Dot Design Award: Product Design 2004.

The
3-dimensionality of the shell provides a friendly and comfortable shape,
while offering the unique possibility of reducing its thickness to a mere
5 mm (normally 9-10 mm). It is the lightest shell pr. m2 ever
produced in plywood. In other words — a reduction of consumption
of natural resources (wood) in half, thanks to human ingenuity and inventiveness.
