exhibitions
Pia Wallén has done
several different group exhibitions in design, culture and style.
These have been shown in several countries for example The House of
Culture in Stockholm, Sweden; French and Scandinavian Design, Copenhagen,
Denmark; Swedish Style in Tokyo, Swedish Embassy, Japan, Victorian
& Albert Museum, Carl & Karin Larsson, London, England; and
Design World 2000, Helsinki, Finland.
Awards
and Grants
Pia Walléns excellence
has been demonstrated by the many awards and grants she has received.
Already one year after her graduation, the Swedish Fashion Council
granted her with a designer prize for her unique felt garments. Swedens
biggest daily newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, has granted her with a prestigious
designer prize, and 1989 she received "The Designer of the 90´s"
award from Swedens most renowned interior magazine, Sköna
Hem. In 1993, The Swedish Artists Board granted her for 10 years
of outstanding work, and on two other occasions she has also been
honored for Excellent Swedish Design of carpets and felt garments.
Commissions
Pia Wallén has been commissioned to create a variety of interesting
projects. For example she was commissioned to make a felt program
for the famous interior producer Cappelini, in the project Progretto
Ogetto in 1992. She has produced a curtain for the Museum of Modern
Art Cinema, Sweden, as well as for the auditorium of Swedens
Museum of Architecture. And furthermore, Wallén is also represented
at The National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm, Sweden, The Rhösska
Museum of Applies Arts and Designs in Sweden, and Museum Angewandte
Kunst in Colonne, Germany.
Products
Pia Wallén has specialized
on developing a variety of felt techniques with high quality and unbeatable
technique for innovative and individualistic products as well as different
product branches such as fashion, interiors and accessories. Her signature
felt slippers with contrasting stitching, unique felt blanket with
a cross pattern, and sleek silver jewelry with felt inside are her
most prevalent works. She is also famous for her collection of carpets,
for example the cross carpet, which are designed for the Swedish interior
company Asplunds. For the Autumn 2000 collection she has made a "Dot
Collection" which focuses on a "tennisball" construction.
The collection consists of clothes, bags, bowls and jewelry in different
coloured felts. The colour palette features a black base with highlighting
colours, such as reddish orange, lilac, white and grey.
