Brussels - Design

Slowly but surely things are moving in Brussels. Design professionals in
Belgium will soon find a more favorable context for the development of their
activities.

At the initiative of the 'Maison des Métiers d'Art et du Patrimoine' and the
company 'Zest Image Management', the design exhibition ‘Origines et
Originalités’ is showing creations of 30 Brussels designers. 'Espace
Morphosis', an old industrial building superbly converted by Zest, welcomes
objects and furniture, often still as prototypes, designed by, amongst
others, Dirk Meylaerts, Xavier Lust, Danny Venlet, Olivier Gilson or Alain
Chennaux. A video where the designers have been submitted to a battery of
questions completes this project.

This event is one of the elements of a larger project started by the 'Maison
des Métiers d'Art et du Patrimoine', which consists of better managing the
design professions which today are neglected by the Belgian authorities.
Last May a round-table conference was held, called 'Bruxelles Design' in the
framework of the Brussels Export program, aimed at designers and enterprises
active in the Brussels region. A summary is accessible on the site of the
MMAP.

Other projects are programmed such as the creation and updating of
databases: ‘artistic professions, preservation, design, schools,
enterprises’ as well as the publication of a work entitled 'Design Guide.
Made in Belgium'.

Exhibition ‘Origines et Originalités’ until October 12
Espace Morphosis - 55, rue des Anciens Etangs - 1190 Brussels - Belgium
