ANNOUNCING A NEW BIENNALE The Interieur Biennale for creative interior design in Kortrijk (Belgium) enjoys a global reputation as one of the leading design events. The event organizers, Interieur Foundation, have announced a new Biennale, the first edition of which is planned for 2003. TRANSIT I/De/A is the launch event for this new Biennale. The original Interieur Biennale focuses on the latest developments in the furniture and interior design sector. The new biennale event will be concerned with design and product development in general. As a taster before the 2003 Biennale, The Design Assembly was held in October 18th this year. Prominent designers from all over the world, such as Fernando and Humberto Campana, Matali Crasset, Konstantin Grcic, Ross Lovegrove, Maarten Van Severen a.o. debated about what is perhaps the most urgent question for the design discipline today: how should designers today position themselves in a world which is increasingly being turned into one enormous design object. After the Assembly, during the evening of October 18th, the opening ceremonies of the Design Route took place. Two major events underpin the Design Route. On the one hand, two exhibitions, from San Francisco and Barcelona, come to the Fondation pour lArchitecture: Tiborocity, and the Martí Guixé retrospective. On the other hand the rue Antoine Dansaert / Antoine Dansaertstraat neighbourhood in the heart of Brussels will be transformed into a design neighbourhood for a whole month. All the big names, the galleries, the shops and even cafés will take part in the Design Route. The exhibition Things to Come taking place in various locations, will be the main feature.
