New in Europe: the "Innovathèque", a project initiated in France by the VIA
(Valorisation de l'Innovation dans l'Ameublement) and the 'Technical Centre
for Wood and Furnishings' following the model of the "Material Collection"
of New York.
This is an indispensable tool for design professionals, given the important
growth of new materials, as shown at the very interesting exhibition "Mutant
materials in contemporary design" presented by the MOMA , New York in 1995,
or again the recent research of designers such as François Azambourg, for
example, who, with his "Pack" chair in armed polyurethane foam (inflatable
in five minutes) and more recently his lamp "3D textile" demonstrate very
well how the careful exploitation of these new and innovative materials can
influence the concept of design.
