an hour of continual use and its got brakes to keep it under control.
this stylish prototype is designed by paul cohen who aims to make it the
personal transport choice for city commuters. its light and easy to
jump on and go.

....................................................................................

a retrospective of textile designs by new zealands avis higgs is now on
at the hawkes bay museum, napier, new zealand. higgs lived and worked in
new zealand until the 40s when she moved to sydney to work for a large
textile manufacturer. in the 50s she to england where her playful,

the fresh imagery.
hopefully this exhibition will encourage more research and exhibition of

paralympics promote the best in design for disability
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this years sydney 2000 paralympics have prompted a lot of interest in
design for disability. from the high tech wheelchair [pictured],
designed by industrial design student, bradley marmion, for use in
paralympic events, to two exhibitions at object gallery:
trace - a collaborative art project coordinated by ryan dunshea, based
on 19th century embossing types [hauy, gall, lucas and moon types] which
were alternatives to the now universal braille type; and
design for every body - an exhibition of product design from sweden
which aims to minimise the difference between people with disabilities
and those without. as with most good design many of the items are
applicable to both [see the screwdriver pictured]. also included in the
exhibition are some australian designs.
