One badge, three unmissable events The best in contemporary design, interiors and architecture: 21-24 September

One badge is all that’s needed for full access to 100% Design, 100% Detail and 100% Light - the definitive event for the interiors, design and architectural industries.  As the one stop shop for interior designers, specifiers, architects, engineers and house-builders, the 100% Design events will exhibit the latest innovative building products and architectural solutions.  Whether sourcing furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, wall and floor fittings, decorative lighting and finishes for new interiors or renovations, 100% Design, 100% Detail and 100% Light will have it.

Great British talent, illustrious international names – both well established and emerging – the experienced 100% team scout the world to select the brightest and best to exhibit.

Reinforcing the show’s position as an event of global importance and a unique hub for the design and architecture industry, this year’s line up of official 100% panel selected exhibitors is bigger than ever before.  Located in an inspirational environment – designed this year around a striking black and white colour scheme – the shows will feature world and UK launches, stimulating podcast guides, thought-provoking seminars, exciting interactive features and influential awards.

In the spotlight - new for 2006 - 100% Light

From timeless classics to the latest technology and hottest designs, 100% Light is the new comprehensive exhibition focusing on the best contemporary and architectural lighting. Showcasing a wide range of products from national and international designers and manufacturers, 100% Light will be held in an environment purpose designed to accentuate lighting displays. Lighting has always featured heavily in the 100% Design events and this new addition was created in response to industry demand. The new exhibition will have it’s own dedicated programme of seminars and will present numerous special features including exclusive commissions from elumin8; a dynamic, interactive installation by Jason Bruges; and a collaborative project coordinated by Jeremy Lord between young designers and LED specialists.

For the first time – Podcast exhibition guides

With three events happening in one place at one time, there is more to see at the 100% Design events than ever before.  To enable visitors to experience as much of the event as possible, podcasts will be launched enabling visitors to tour 100% Design, 100% Detail and 100% Light in a uniquely informative way.  Organised into thematic tours, the definitive Podcasts from leading industry figures will be available to download from all the show websites.  The podcasts will allow you to listen again to the seminars across the three shows  and as navigator and narrator through the shows’ spaces.  100% Podcasts include tours through all three shows, focusing on kitchens and bathrooms of the future, new talent, atmospheric and functional lighting, sustainability, design technology and materials.

Future Building Technology

At 100% Detail, over 150 ingenious exhibitors sourced from around the world will be displaying products including inspiration for improving energy efficiency in both new projects and existing buildings.  In addition, showing more than 200 ultramodern materials, cutting edge installation 100% Materials, curated by materials expert Chris Lefteri, offers an exciting glimpse into the future of design and the innovative materials that the next generation will find commonplace.  100% Materials: Wood is an additional feature focusing on technological timber for architecture and design and showing products ranging from super-light wood/foam composites to ultra-dense engineered woods with the potential to replace metals.

Other key features at 100% Detail include the 100% Detail/RIBA Journal Innovation Award for the best product on show, Architecture For Humanity focusing on their success in improving CRISIS shelters in London and highlighting their role in providing architectural skills for the greater good; and the Wood Awards shortlist will be unveiled, recognising and encouraging outstanding design and craftsmanship in timber structures.  The 100% Debate programme of free seminars will this year tackle practical issues of building management and procurement along with the significance of sustainability today and its importance in the future.

100% Sustainable

As popular attention is increasingly focused on green living, eco trends and ethical choices in design, 100% Design takes the initiative, hosting the launch of 100% Sustainable? an ongoing interactive research project curated by IF Inheritable Futures, aiming to further engage the creative industries with sustainable design.

The show will also host Ten, an exhibition featuring 10 London-based designers each given a £10 budget and a limited 10 mile radius within which to source or scavenge their raw materials, in order to complete their mission to produce a 3D object.  The designers, who include Tomoko Azumi, Carl Clerkin, Gitta Gschwendtner and Michael Marriott, will deal with issues of sustainability in London whilst having their resourcefulness as designers rigorously tested, along with their ideas about what is critical to successful ethical practice.

Eco-friendly products of note at 100% Design include the 99% recyclable Celle chair from Herman Miller; Renewal Carpet Tiles’ award winning eco friendly carpet tiles and setting an ethical example are young Italian designers, Sofarsonear who are launching their range of furniture, all of which are manufactured entirely in line with fair trade principles.

100% Detail will showcase the most progressive green products from national and international suppliers. Amongst these will be Strawboard from Invotek, a straw alternative to plasterboard; BubbleDeck’s innovative structures incorporating recycled plastic balls as an alternative to concrete to create a biaxial flat slab structure floor system; mood changing and solar glass from Smartglass, uber intelligent glass that changes at a flick of a switch to provide light blockage or to act as an internal partition; renewable energy expert, and ever eco-friendly Dalsouple will be exhibiting DalNaturel, newly re-engineered to maximise its environmental credentials.  Sustainability is a key theme at both 100% Detail and 100% Light’s daily seminars.

Nurturing New Talent

Since its inception over a decade ago, 100% Design has always encouraged and welcomed fresh and emerging talent to exhibit alongside established companies. Among this year’s first time exhibitors are Blink Art & Design with their range of hand-made tiles; RCA graduate Erica Wakerly showing artful wallpapers and Scottish furniture designer/architect Outgang.  The 100% Bursary scheme goes from strength to strength with designers who benefited in 2005 returning including Jeremy Cole, CoEx, Sheldon Cooney and Autoban.

Design collectives such as 100% Design/Blueprint Award winner, Hidden Art, celebrating its tenth year at 100% Design with its biggest ever stand; Liverpool and Manchester’s Design Initiative and Design Factory from Lincolnshire continue to build on their success in promoting small, regional designer-makers at 100% Design, introducing lesser known and regional talent to the show’s large, receptive audience.  Success stories include Soop Design, Helen Amy Murray and Susan Bradley, all of whom first showed at 100% Design with Hidden Art and now return with their own stands.

Globe trotting design and great British talent

At the 100% events, specifiers have ample opportunity to discover the best of British and take advantage of the latest global trends and technological advances.  Overseas representation is stronger than ever with exhibitors flying in from Turkey, Chile, Belgium and Finland.  Stands from Japan, Denmark, Spain, Canada and Germany will promote each country’s distinctive approach to design, whether that is Japan’s idiosyncratic design solutions or over at 100% Detail, German excellence in building materials.

Home-grown talent at 100% Design includes Hitch Mylius, Tom Dixon, Mathmos, Jasper Morrison and Timorous Beasties, all of whom will be unveiling new products.

Regional exhibitors include ceramic lighting from Staffordshire’s Scabetti, and Cornish designer/makers Block.  Lloyd Loom of Spalding will unveil their new Nemo chair by Studio Dillon and Leeds-based naughtone will launch a new sofa system using exclusive Bute fabrics.  Once again 100% Design/Blueprint Awards will recognise the high standards set by exhibitors at 100% Design.

Both global and to the UK market, this year’s launch highlights include a brand new collection from up-and-coming north east based duo Deadgood; a kitchen range developed by German bathroom specialists Dornbracht and the world launch of Swarovski crystal studded ironmongery by Karcher Design.  New to the UK are furniture ranges from Belgian designers Lamaisondemarina, whose collection includes an elegant armchair that incorporates a light and Italian furniture manufacturers, Tacchini with designs by PearsonLloyd and Christophe Pillet.  Newly launched, 100% Light will also host a clutch of product launches including lighting control systems from Crestron and new ranges from Delta Light and Conciluce.
