Classic meets contemporary –
Karl Andersson & Söner, stand C14:30

Fifty years ago the Danish architect Børge Mogensen was asked if he would be willing to consider collaborating with Karl Andersson & Söner. He replied, “I am interested, but would like to take a closer look at the factory and your production process before making any firm commitment.” Børge Mogensen clearly approved of what he saw, for this tentative reply marked the beginning of a long-term liaison that laid the foundation for what Karl Andersson & Söner stands for today.
To acknowledge this contribution and the fact that we are still, half a century later, producing Mogensen’s Øresund designs, we have manufactured a special limited edition of 50 individually numbered copies of the original sideboard in pine and teak.

On stand C14:30 where classic lines and contemporary styling come together in a variety of forms and settings, we are also exhibiting the new København coffee table, designed by the Danes Michael Poulsen and Hans Ploug – two new names in the Karl Andersson & Söner catalogue. We first came across their tables in the Salone Satellite exhibition for young designers at the Milan Furniture Fair last year. “Our underlying idea was to create a truly beautiful, sculptural table based on the knock-down principle,” say the Danish duo, whose design company, Nonproduction, has gone from strength to strength since the start in 2001.

Our highly successful Front magazine shelf has evolved into a combination of display stands for printed materials, incorporating noticeboard, whiteboard and mirror from Skala Design (Lasse Pettersson and Lasse Notman). And last but not least among our new products is Ulla Christiansson’s new design for a table with wooden legs.

We look forward to welcoming you to stand C14:30 at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, where classic lines meet contemporary styling from 9–13 February 2005, and also to our showroom Studio B3 (address: no. 3 Barnhusgatan, Stockholm – the venue for our press preview at 2.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 February).

Karl Andersson & Söner in brief...
Karl Andersson & Söner have been making furniture since 1898. Our collections include furniture that looks just as stunning in public spaces as it does in the home, series we have been making for decades alongside totally new pieces in a variety of styles and expressions. But we like to think that all our designs share one thing in common – they are all almost certainly destined to become future classics.

By working with renowned designers we are firmly committed to developing high-quality furniture for a broad spectrum of environments – furniture with a strong identity and its own character that will stand the test of time and outlive fleeting trends.
