ESSAY™ – A TABLE FOR LIFE

Quality, honesty and thoughtful design without frills – are the key principles upon which Fritz Hansen’s new table, Essay™ has been built. Designed by Danish designer Cecilie Manz, Essay embodies the design world’s current interest in back-to-basics simplicity and emphasis on durability in both aesthetics and materials.

What distinguishes Essay is its solid yet light design. The table consists of three elements – a tabletop and two bases – in a simple and natural construction that gives it both an elegant look and flexible functionality.

As a furniture designer, Cecilie Manz thinks creatively but always with respect for the materials and functionality. The Essay table reflects her approach with its simple lines and sparse form, which is softened by its smooth, rounded legs. The solid wood in warm shades – oak, ash, black coloured ash and walnut – also lends its character a friendly edge, creating a peaceful and homely atmosphere.

The dining table sits at the heart of any home, acting as a gathering point where family members, friends and guests meet before disappearing again into the world of their individual activities. So the table that stands in the living room, kitchen or family room carries a great deal of emotional weight, as well as the obvious need for it to be a functional table with the space and durability to support family life for many years.

Essay satisfies these demands, coming in four different sizes to match the sizes and lifestyles of a variety of households. Each table can also be expanded with black linoleum leaves, ensuring there’s enough room to simply push the laptop computer, toys, newspapers and schoolbooks to one side when it’s time to eat. Made of one hundred percent solid wood and without a frame, Essay will last a lifetime, representing the ultimate form of sustainability.

7 NEW COLOURS SELECTED BY 7 YOUNG DESIGNERS

The Essay table is accompanied by Arne Jacobsen’s most famous and bestselling stacking chair, the Series 7™. This chair will be introduced in seven new colours which ensure that this classic remains utterly contemporary, from the dramatic neon pink that lights up a whole room to the dusty, discreet, sophisticated olive.

These colours have been selected by seven young, up-and-coming designers: Maarten Baas, Arik Levy, Fabio Novembre, Jaime Hayon, Sebastian Bergne, Nendo and Autoban. The chairs’ new colours bring out the beauty of the Essay table, but of course look equally attractive when standing alone or used in other combinations.

The Essay table and the new Series 7 colours will be available from 1st September at selected Fritz Hansen dealers.
