Fredericia
Furniture has just been awarded the "Interior Innovation Award Cologne
2008" for the Stingray rocking chair in veneer. The award was presented
at this years Köln Internationale Møbelmesse, one of
the worlds leading furniture fairs.
The
highly prestigious award is presented in collaboration with the esteemed
German design institute Rat für Formgebung. It is intended to recognise
not only the fairs best design, but also the most innovative product
on display. Products that win the "Interior Innovation Award Cologne"
are in a class of their own. Fredericia
Funitures Stingray was chosen from a field of more than 450 products
competing for the award. Its selection leaves no doubt that Fredericia
Furniture is well on its way to making international design history, with
world-class works of Danish design.
 The
veneer version of the Stingray rocker was created by the young Danish
designer Thomas Pedersen, and was conceived as an innovative reworking
of Pedersens earlier Stingray in plastic. Thomas Pedersens
rising prominence in the international design world can be partly explained
by his remarkable ability to challenge familiar assumptions and his unwavering
persistence of which Stingray is clearly an example. Who would
have thought that an "old-fashioned"
rocking chair could be given new meaning and become one of todays
modern classics?
The
new version of Stingray is available in oak, walnut and the African wood
makassar, whose grain beautifully accentuates the chairs organic
contours which were inspired by the sea. Stingray can also be ordered
in an upholstered version, offering hours and hours of enjoyable relaxation.
