Press release
Fredericia Furniture at Copenhagen International Furniture Fair 2005
New collection strengthens
Fredericia Furnitures profile
When
Copenhagen International Furniture Fair 2005 opens its doors, Fredericia
Furniture A/S will be there with a collection that emphasises both the
classic and the innovative sides of the companys profile.

Fredericia
Furnitures new collection is a magnificent merging of past and present.
Børge Mogensens popular spoke-back sofa and Thomas Pedersens
audacious, funky StingRay rocking chair are two of the more extreme milestones
in a timeline that forms the backdrop
to Fredericia Furnitures stand at Copenhagen International Furniture
Fair from 19 to 22 May.

The
60-year period from the spoke-back sofa to the rocking chair includes
a great number of strong design icons from some of Denmarks best
known furniture designers: Hans J. Wegner, Nanna Ditzel, Cecilie Manz,
Niels Jørgen Haugesen, Hans Sandgren Jakobsen, Rud Thygesen and
Johnny Sørensen, Foersom and Hiort-Lorenzen to name but
a few.
Common
to them all is that they have set new standards for Danish design, and
their furniture, regardless of age, remains among the most sought after
on the international market.
Stronger, not bigger
The retrospective exhibition depicts a company that during the past year
has consolidated its position on the designer furniture market. At the
end of last year and 50 years after Andreas Graversen acquired
the equity capital holding in what was then A/S Fredericia
Stolefabrik and laid the foundations for the present company - Fredericia
Furniture took over the furniture collections of Kvist Møbler and
Mobili.
This
has strengthened Fredericia Furnitures collection on both the classic
and the innovative sides. In part, the acquisition of the popular Shaker
chair J39 has enabled the Fredericia company to consolidate its position
as the leading producer of Børge Mogensens acknowledged classic,
and in part, the companys future oriented profile is emphasised
by innovative furniture such as Christina Strands Rex chair and
Thomas Pedersens Sting-Ray rocking chair.
This
marks a significant expansion of our product range and is a step towards
further strengthening Fredericia Furniture as a brand, explains
Managing Director Thomas Graversen, emphasising that the acquisitions
have served to make Fredericia Furnitures own
collection stronger, not bigger.
He
continues: We have utilised the expansion to establish a clearer
focus and introduced several more well-known, sought after products
so-called high runners that have become well established
on the market. This has enabled us to rank our products and concentrate
on the truly interesting pieces.
Improved market position
Not
only have the takeovers increased turnover by 50 per cent and placed this
rapidly expanding company firmly among the biggest Danish furniture designers,
but they have also contributed to a significant strengthening of Fredericia
Furnitures position on the international designer furniture market.
Managing
Director Thomas Graversen estimates that annual turnover will reach about
DKK 110 million. In addition, he expects to achieve a sales synergy from
combining the three collections.
On
the export market, the respective strengths of Kvist and Fredericia Furniture
have been in different areas, he adds, so they complement
each other well.

New products on display at the stand
Nanna
Ditzel is represented at the stand with her characteristic Trinidad chair,
which ranks among Fredericia Furnitures biggest recent successes.
Also, in connection with Copenhagen International Furniture Fair 2005
Fredericia Furniture is to unveil an entirely new item of waiting furniture.
In
her own way, Ditzel can thus emphasise the point of Fredericia Furnitures
new collection: Good design does not age.
