The exhibition will be on display at Röhsska Museum, August 25 to October 4, 2015.
The oriental technique of lacquer painting, whereby an object’s surface finish is built up of layer upon layer of resin from the sumac tree, has been used in East Asia for over 7000 years and covers a variety of techniques and applications. But despite the craft’s long history, it is not a technology bound to tradition but to a creative art form in constant change.
The exhibition A New Layer presents a collection of lacquerware by Swedish designers, created in co-operation with craftspeople in Taiwan, in a project which aims to strengthen and develop traditional craftsmanship. The participating designers are Carina Seth Andersson, Matti Klenell, Stina Löfgren, TAF/Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom.

The exhibition opens on Tuesday, 25 August at 12 noon. Opening speech at 5.30pm, in the presence of the exhibitors. Warm welcome.
The exhibition is being shown in association with the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI).
